Why Martial Arts? Why the Karate Center? FAQ

The Karate Center has been teaching martial arts, under the direction of International Master Gary Horner 6th Dan and Master Bobbie Horner 5th Dan, in the same location in our community since 1999. We have successfully graduated 100’s of Black Belts and enjoy our excellent reputation and outstanding success of our students.

Before you decide on any martial arts school it is important to get answers to the following questions. If you do not see your question posted here, please feel free to call us personally at 561-968-4011 or email me; masterhorner@gmail.com

Q: What is a good age to start martial arts training?
1. Any age is a good age. We have classes for students as young as 3 and often have adults beginning their journey at age 20,30,40 and even in their 50’s! Our curriculum is flexible enough to accommodate all ages. There are benefits to Martial Arts training for every age. Our Little Dragon’s program, is designed for students ages 3 to 5. In the Little Dragons classes we focus on developing listening skills and appropriate classroom behavior in a fun, and structured environment. For our Youth, ages 6 -10, martial arts training offers a traditional martial arts atmosphere with incredible benefits. Beyond simply learning self-defense skills, and maintaining or improving physical fitness, students will develop: focus, discipline, respect, self-esteem, goal setting, and confidence. And for teens and adults, martial arts' training is a great way to improve fitness and flexibility, and to learn practical self-defense skills and all the additional benefits of becoming a Black Belt

Q: Will martial arts teach my child to be hostile and aggressive?
Absolutely not. Children learn a lot about what it means to be respectful and polite here. As a result, kids who weren't violent in the first place become even more respectful and kind. Children of all ages with behavior problems often become very respectful and calm.

Q: Can my child still participate in martial arts, even if he/she is not athletic?
Yes! In fact, martial arts is kind of a beacon of light for children who just don't fit into team sports. Children who never could throw a ball well or run fast find that martial arts is accessible to them. It's something they excel at, and as a result, their confidence soars.

Q: Do boys AND girls take martial arts?
Yes! We have a good mix of both girls and boys in our children’s martial arts classes! Some people think that the boys are much "stronger and tougher," but in reality this is not true. In fact, often girls are the stronger ones!

Q: Can I come in and just observe a class?
Yes, of course you (and your child) are invited to sit back and watch our classes in action. However, for safety and security reasons, we ask you to notify the instructor that you are present.

Q: Do you offer a special beginner trial?
Yes, we offer a 30 Days FREE trial - there is absolutely no risk and no obligation. Simply call to arrange a free orientation/introductory class to meet our Instructors and review you first class. It's as simple as that!

Q: How much are lessons?
The cost for lessons is dependent on which membership program you select 6-month, and 12-month or one of our premium membership programs We discuss these options with you face-to-face so we may thoroughly explain all aspects of our curriculum. Please call us at 561-968-4011 to set up an appointment.

Q: How often should we attend classes?
Most students attend 2 classes per week, although we do offer premium programs that students can attend more classes.

Q: How long are classes?
Little Dragons (3 to 5) are 30 min., children's and young adults and adult classes are 45 min..

Q: Do you offer beginner classes for children and adults?
Yes, we offer classes especially for beginners whether they are child or adult.

Q: How can I get started?
The first step to Black Belt is to try a free trial lesson. Call to schedule a FREE NO obligation introductory/ orientation lesson. We will review our curriculum, programs and class schedules to see what is best for you.

Q: Do you do birthday parties and special events?
Yes, we do children's birthday parties. It does not matter whether the birthday child is a student or not, our parties are fun for everyone!
